Hi Jan,

I'd look into GLXChooseVisual. i haven't tested this yet as I'm waiting for my system to come in. But for example, this is what is used to return stereo visuals in programs that use the gtkgl/gdk/ gtkglarea type libraries. I had a test case here at one point and I'll see if I can dig it up.
