Hello,
I tried
X :1 -cc 3 -depth 8
After setting the display to :1, xdpyinfo returns:
---
screen #0:
dimensions: 800x600 pixels (271x203 millimeters)
resolution: 75x75 dots per inch
depths (7): 8, 1, 4, 15, 16, 24, 32
root window id: 0x39
depth of root window: 8 planes
number of colormaps: minimum 1, maximum 1
default colormap: 0x20
default number of colormap cells: 256
preallocated pixels: black 1, white 0
options: backing-store NO, save-unders NO
largest cursor: 32x32
current input event mask: 0x0
number of visuals: 1
default visual id: 0x22
visual:
visual id: 0x22
class: PseudoColor
depth: 8 planes
available colormap entries: 256
red, green, blue masks: 0x0, 0x0, 0x0
significant bits in color specification: 8 bits
----
It shows Pseudocolor as the visual. I think this should work for you, if you
don't mind having two X servers running at the same time. I have been using this
for a while to run some really old motif apps on my mac.
