I'm with Eric on this one. I think she has some other problems here.
Especially since she stated, "I did the same to the main 52GB image folder,
and 22 hours later the transfer was complete." I don't think that it should
have taken 22 hours to transfer only 52GBs. I've done transfers of 60 to 80
GBs and they did take a while but not a full day (I seem to remember
something like 2 hours). (I was doing some speed testing with my iPod and
it would take about 2 hours and 10 minutes to transfer 52GB to it.)
Running Disk Utility is probably a good idea.
Another thought on helping locate where the files might be is to use
OmniGroup's OmniDiskSweeper (they offer a one day free license). It's sort
of like the du command (trying to get this back on topic) that you can
navigate graphically. It looks at EVERYTHING on the drive (including the
hidden system stuff).
