Personally I don't know why one would want xpdf or acroread when
Preview handles PDF files as well as it does.
As for not creating binaries, look at the config.log file in the
directory where you're running ./configure. It should have the
information you need to figure out what's happening. My SWAG
(Scientific Wild-Assed Guess) is that you don't have the X11
development system installed.
