I do not like the Mac windows system at all. Actually I got a pain in
the shoulder from working with it for three days. The reson is that one
has to do long mouse movements to reach the menues at the top of the
screen that are disconnected from the applications and that there is no
focus follows mouse + autoraise. At least I did not find out how to
configure it.
Multiple desktops are not supported natively, and virtue is not fully
functionally and comes without documentation. KDE was my solution to the
problem, therefore I am now looking for all the X11 software I need for
everyday live.

No, that is not the reason. I am running kde, so I have some hours of
compilation with the X11 development system behind me.
I will examine the config.log more carefully.
Thanks and best wishes
