Thanks for the information Ernie. Actually, the description in the
update and the web page you cite mention this update is for GLX
issues but don't indicate any sense of urgency.
I do wish Apple would give the "yellow cursor" problem the
appropriate priority. For those of us who use our Intel OS X
machines on a daily basis accessing Linux servers the visual loss of
the pointer is quite debilitating. The fix, as described previously,
is nothing more than the required byte-swapping when reading from the
network.
If the fix is not squeezed into a software update I hope you can
ensure that it is fixed in Leopard.
Thanks again for the feedback. It is gratifying to know someone at
Apple is reading this list.
Best,
Brad

Hi all,
As mentioned in the README, this special X11-only update was driven
by two urgent issues associated with GLX:

though, we did our best to squeeze in additional fixes where
feasible. The problem with 8-bit color, unfortunately, is due to
lower-level system components that are not part of X11 per se, and
thus not appropriate for this Update. We'll see if we can get that
fix into a regular Software Update, but with Leopard right around
the corner I can't promise anything.
