Here's my setup:
On my MacBook Pro with OS X 10.4.8, I am using the NoMachine nxClient for OS X to connect to my Ubuntu Linux box at work through VPN. Everything to this point is wonderful. All keys are working fine in the remote X session in KDE, but when I load VMWare Workstation 5.5 and start up a Windows machine I do not get all of the key correctly, most letters work but not the symbols, IE the underscore and the colon. BTW the underscore key gives me a question mark and the colon does nothing.
I called VMWare and opened a support ticket and they said it was a Mac thing as this does not happen with the Windows nxClient. I was already thinking that if I knew which keymap X11 on the Mac was using, i could then hard code this in the Vmware preferences file as it is set to pt104 right now. I called Apple to try and figure out which keymap is being used and they deferred me to this list.
After searching through the archive I saw a post that says to do this:
/Applications/Utilities/X11.app/Contents/MacOS/X11 -keymap
Which should print out which keymap is in use. To which I get the output:
XFree86 Version 4.4.0 / X Window System (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600) [DRI] screen 0 installation complete Screen 0 added: 1440x900 @ (0,0)
Fatal server error: Could not find keymapping file :0.
OsVendorFatalError AbortDDX Quitting XDarwin...
Maybe this is the problem...there is NO keymap in use and nothing gets passed to the remote session? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, JD.
