Odd, I'm noticing this too, but in my case, the left alt is not
working and the right alt is. I do have recent git including the
stuck key patch:
http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=xorg/xserver.git;a=commit;h=65b4e4733ffe425c19902af035eb7b49642ed034
I tested this with QT3/X11's qtconfig.

Why is the right Alt-Key not working? The left one did ...
The only Apple keyboard I have here is on my Titanium Powerbook,
and it doesn't have an Alt key. The keyboard I'm using now is a
rather ancient Microsoft Natural keyboard connected to a Mac Mini
via a 4-port KVM switch with a USB/PS2 adapter.
In this case, the keys with the little Windows icon perform as
the option key on the Powerbook keyboard, whether using the right
or left key. When doing things like zooming in and out which
would be a cmd-option[+-] on an Apple keyboard, this only works
with the Alt-Win keys to the right of the space bar.
Personally I don't use emacs so don't have much use for the Alt
keys in X11.
