Technically, a program can have a bug where it uses lots of memory
because it never cleans up what it should, and still not have a
"memory leak." Most debuggers only call memory that has "gotten
lost" a memory leak. So quartz-wm could be just doing the wrong
thing with full knowledge that it's doing so. :-) It's a fine
distinction, but it would explain what yo are seeing.

Hi All,
Does anyone know why the quartz-wm only seems to grow in memory
usage and never shrinks? I have run 'leaks quartz-wm' and it
clearly shows that no memory is leaking from the app, just that the
number of nodes and total memory allocated only grows in size. If
I leave x11.app up and running long enough it sometimes grows to
consume 1+ Gb of ram and I am forced to shut down all my x apps in
order to restart x11.app. Shouldn't it be able to deallocate some
of that memory as windows are closed?
