Yeah, I'm rebuilding xterm now, but that won't solve problems with
other apps like OpenOffice and nedit. What does xev show?

It looks like I am getting the 8th bit set somehow since I get a
lot of
box-drawing characters when I type. It eventually goes away in
OpenOffice after I switch cells in Calc, but does not go away in
nedit.
How do I fix this?
