Odd, the code that launches that is the exact same as X11.app

Francisco, what happens if you do this at a terminal?
/usr/bin/login -fp <your login> /bin/sh -c xterm

Weird... so this is probably just the race condition. I'll look at this a bit more when I get some cycles.
