One of the primary applications I use under X11 is called Xastir (http://xastir.org). A highly simplified description is that it is a ham radio program for tracking moving stations. I have two computers running it full-time. One under Leopard and one under Tiger. I am experiencing some troubles which I can only attribute to Leopard (although there is a chance that they don't), so I'm bringing them here for some help.
1) The first problem relates to an error message that I get continually while Xastir is running. They read something like this:
Warning: Name: create_appshell text_output2 Class: XmTextField Character '\260' not supported in font. Discarded.
The FAQ for Xastir talks about this problem and the recommended solution is to place a line in the .bash_profile that reads something like this:
LANG=en_US
I've tried both, but the error doesn't go away. I've also tried both with quotes, also to no avail. I've asked on the Xastir mailing list, but folks don't have any guesses about what is not working since the described solution has always worked in the past. I seem to recall that one of the previous versions of Xquartz didn't have this problem, but since I didn't keep them I can't confirm that. Currently I am running 1.2a11 and libX11.6.dylib v1.1.3. Aside from the constant stream of warnings to the terminal there isn't any other known symptom of this problem.
2) The second problem is periodic lockups. Typically they involve opening a sub-window, then double-clicking on a line of text which triggers a second sub-window. The second sub-window appears, but is never refreshed with the details and just sits for a long long long time. The program responds to nothing at this time and the only way out is to force the program to quit. This doesn't happen under Tiger, only Leopard, so I'm wondering if that is where the problem lies.
