FWIW, I use the US extended keyboard most of the time in Aqua - lots
more chars, including a macron dead key, very handy for Latin. I drop
into the Unicode keyboard for occasional really-weird characters.
I don't use many X11 apps where I have to enter text; when I do, I
usually fire up vim in an xterm and use digraphs, or switch to an Aqua
app, and then copy/paste.
