Hmm, interesting, and a good illustration of the fact that people are
different. My own unix experience is almost exclusively Sun and
FreeBSD (and OS X lately of course), and I have been running just a
basic window manager and spent much of my time in emacs. So I never
got really infected with this infestation of the Alt key everywhere.
On the other hand, emacs without a meta key is hell on earth. All
this just goes to show that I am probably weird enough that I
shouldn't get to decide for others. 8-)

I have long been wondering why X11 on OS X wastes one on Command.
Turning off "Enable keyboard shortcuts in X11" was my very first act
when I first tried out X11 on the Mac. Again, maybe I am too weird in
my demands. (Heck, I prefer stick shifts to automatics, too.)
