If it's broken, it should be fixed. I agree with that. Somebody mentioned Oracle as something that doesn't work properly without XDMCP.

IIRC, they said it didn't work with ssh tunneling... hence the suggestion of reverting to standard $DISPLAY and using tcp X connection,
