I just tried VirtueDesktop (which is what I think this migrated to)
and it won't launch. Starts and then just quits. Console message is
10/29/07 12:51:13 PM
[0x0-0x144144].info.virtuedesktops.VirtueDesktops[6820] Reason:
unsafe use of @executable_path in /Users/scott/Downloads/
VirtueDesktops.app/Contents/MacOS/VirtueDesktops with setuid binary

Dumb question:
Will DesktopManager work with Leopard?

Spaces is impossible with Leopard's X11 and next to useless with OS X
Leopard applications. If you need a desktop manager and don't really
need Leopard yet, get "Desktop Manager"
(http://desktopmanager.berlios.de/) The only advantage with Spaces
and
what saves it from complete failure is the ability to move widows
between spaces on the overview screen (F8).

glad it's working - thanks for sending the recap.
A lot of people were asking me how to do this, so I
actually wrote up
a little page describing it:

Thanks again for figuring this out. X11 on OSX is
crucial for me and
many of my coworkers, so this workaround has allowed
us to upgrade to
Tiger and continue to be productive.
