do that it launches X11. . . then you try to remote ssh into a machine.

I have not seen any problem with "ssh -Y", between Macs running Leopard
or Tiger either way, or from a Mac/Leopard to Linux. No difference to
Tiger, except that you don't need to set DISPLAY nor start X11.app. I am
not sure where xhost would come into this.
