remote X problem

I've been following the list for several days now and haven't noticed this covered. Hopefully somebody will have some insight or experience making it work.

I use a home office and WFH 3 days a week. My work machine is Ubuntu Linux, but I prefer to sit at my awesome dual-screen Mac Pro. For about a year, under Tiger, I worked on the Linux machine headless from my Mac using remote X. Alas, under Leopard it will not work.

I setup my ~/.xinitrc as follows (Tiger):

quartz-wm --only-proxy &
xhost +
ssh email@hidden "export DISPLAY=my.mac.ip:0 ; startkde"

When I launched X11 it would start my remote KDE desktop and pipe everything to my Mac X. Worked fantastic. Dual screen support and all. These days, I am sad....

I have read about the changes in Leopard, and tried adjusting my scripts. I even tried a bunch of manual steps, and applied Ben's nice Xquartz update. No dice. Sometimes I would get the remote desktop for a couple of seconds, then X11 would crash. Most of the time I would just timeout with "unable to open display 192.168.1.98:0" (my Mac). And yes, my firewall is disabled.

Anyone had success with remote X?
