Yes, I have no problems doing what you said above, but you need to start using SSH tunnelling for your X stuff and not what you're currently doing. Specifically you shouldn't have to set the DISPLAY variable on your remote machine, you should just be able to do ssh -Y remote.machine.com and then start kde.


I just tried this on on my laptop from home to a work Linux box and it worked no problem, with the stock Leopard X11.
