You might be running into the kernel bug and just happened to see it
after installing xcode. Do you see the terminal taking up 100% cpu in
Activity monitor?
Check your system log in Console.app... that might reveal something
useful...
And you might as well just install the latest X11 release from
xquartz.macosforge.org while you're at it.
