Tom is right in what I am referring to, that is, the fact that in the
current rc the tool curser lags behind the mouse pointer. As to
defining a "while back" I am not positive. I have tried to search the
x11 list but can not find the specific email. I seem to remember this
happening in Nov 2007 when Ben Byer was about. I think the solution
we came up with then was that if we clicked "Disable Beam
Synchronization" the sluggishness disappeared. Shortly after that the
problem was fixed and then came back only recently with 2.3.2, maybe
2.3.1. I could just start by installing old versions to see when the
problem disappeared and then reappeared if you think that would help.
Of course I have no idea what I am talking about, but I know the
sluggishness is there with 2.3.2_rcx and not there with whatever
version was installed with 10.5.6.

I noticed an issue with 2.3.2 all release candidates. In GIMP, the
paint brush tool lags behind the mouse pointer if you move fast.
This was fixed a while back, but seems to have reappeared with
2.3.2. The X11 version from 10.5.6 does not have this problem, and
IIRC neither did 2.3.1.
What do you mean by "a while back"? Can you tell me what version
this
fix appeared in? I don't recall this ever being an issue.
FWIW, I recall that GIMP's tool drag speed sucked to the point of
near unusability the one and only time I ever tried to use it on Mac.
Judging from file dates, I was using either X 2.3.1 or one of its last
beta/rc releases.
[ experiments... ] It seems to be better in 2.3.2 rc3: at least,
actual
painting is quick. If you just move the mouse around with the pencil
tool selected, you can detect a visible lag between the cursor image
and
the mouse pointer. Not sure if that's what Mike sees, but in any case
the lag seems to be less than what I remember seeing in September.
