I'm curious (as others have been by their responses) why you need to
do this at all. The only reason you'd need to use 'open -a X11' is
if you're maintaining backwards compatability for 10.4, and you
should only be doing that inside of an if(ICantConnectToX11())
If you are starting X11 in order to run an xterm, just run 'xterm'
instead of 'open -a X11'.

Hi,
I'm using Leopard and XQuartz 2.1.3 apple9. I don't know if what I'm
going to describe happened in previous releases (can't remember).
When starting X11 with open (open -a x11) from the shell, the
command did the job (X11 is effectively started), but the shell
didn't get the control back (open doesn't stop). Note that open
behave correctly with any other app.
Any hint ?
