This is only an annoyance issue, but may be indicative of some other
problem. My current setup is a MacBook Pro with an external monitor
running in side-by-side mode, the main screen being on the external
monitor. I am currently running X-2.1.3. Here's the issue: I use IDL
(math/graphics package that uses X11 windowing). For any of the
itools in IDL (ivolume for example for any familiar with it) they
display a new window which pops up on the laptop screen. (That is not
the expected behavior in my mind because any new xterms I request
appear on the external monitor as they should.) If I don't move the
itool window, there's no problem. If I move the window to the
external monitor (where I wanted it to pop up in the first place) then
moving the mouse over the window causes many error alerts in the IDL
console stating "% Program caused arithmetic error: Floating illegal
operand". If I move the window back to the laptop, the errors
persist. So something happened when I moved the window from the
laptop to the external monitor that isn't reversed. I've exchanged
email with the IDL people and they're kind of hinting it's an X11
problem. I know that multiple monitor support has appeared in this
list before, so I was wondering where to turn to find out what's going
on.
Thanks to all who are contributing to this project, my work would come
to a halt without X11 (or I'd have to go back to my old linux box,
ugh!).
