No Inkscape window in MacOS 10.5.2

I have installed Inkscape-0.45.1-2-UNIVERSAL into Mac OS 10.5.2 with Xquartz 2.1.3. I can NOT get the menu bar or the window. I only get the part of the menu bar that reads "inkscape." Has anyone seen this behavior? Can someone give me direction on how to troubleshoot my installation? PowerMac G5 with 1.5 Gb of memory.
