It includes the *application* xinput.
Xorg.conf is used by the xfree86 DDX (the X server on linux, BSD,
etc). Xquartz does not use that file.
That device node you mention is specific to udev on Linux (and won't
even work on BSD). As a side note, you should probably not hard-
code that device node on your linux box because it's not guaranteed
to always be the same. Try setting up udev rules to set a symlink
to it and use /dev/wacom instead.
W want to eventually support the wacom tablets and other multi-
dimensional input devices, but that is a ways off still and not as
high priority as some other issues.
Thanks for your answer. First, let me say that I am just knowledgeable
enough to setup a wacom tablet on linux (which is basically just copy
and paste from working Xorg configurations) and that I don't have a
deep knowledge of X.
I thought (and was told) that what was missing from the previous
version of X11 to get tablet support and all was the XInput extension.
The xinput *application* is something else then, as you point out. But
currently it reports something on:
xinput version
which means, if I understand the man page correctly, that the XInput
extension is there too (and has been there since the switch to Xorg
probably). Since this extension is there, what is missing currently to
support tablet and other devices?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello everyone,
Xquartz 2.1.4 lists the inclusion of xinput in its changelog[1].
I was eager to test this but it does not work out of the box with
my Wacom tablet as it does on recent Linux boxes. I guess I should
set this up in Xorg.conf. So I have a few questions:
- where is Xorg.conf in quartz? I was unable to find it in /usr/X11
or /etc and there is not even an etc directory in /usr/X11
- If there is no config file I guess the defaults are hardcoded
somewhere and I should reproduce them in my .conf file, otherwise I
may get the tablet to work but the rest will be screwed up. Is
there a way for me to get these defaults?
- Should I expect the settings used on Linux[2] to work as-is on OS
X, with the references to /dev/input/event0 etc.
Thank you very much in advance.
