I'm guessing you are trying to install the old 10.3 version of X11
that you can download from Apple's web site on a newer version of OS
X. The installer message is incorrect, but it's true that the
software is incompatible. You need a newer version of X11. If you're
running Tiger, you need to install the version on the Tiger DVD. If
you're running Leopard, your best bet is to get it off the XQuartz
project page here: http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/xquartz
