That's interesting, Merle. I also thought it was a font problem. I tried 2.1.3 version with and without my .Xdefaults (where I set fonts) and the tek mode does not work, which could indicate a missing font. But why would I be missing fonts if you have them? Why does Macports compile work? Does it use a different set of fonts?

tektronix mode and the type was fine using any of the tektronix font
sizes selectable from within xterm.  Usually when characters show up
as little open squares, it may mean that you are missing the font that
it wants (or the program you're running is requesting a font that he
tektronix pane can't display).
I don't use xterm much and the tek pane almost never so I didn't test
it exhaustively.
