It works fine for me using the 2.1.3 release. Switched to the tektronix mode and the type was fine using any of the tektronix font sizes selectable from within xterm. Usually when characters show up as little open squares, it may mean that you are missing the font that it wants (or the program you're running is requesting a font that he tektronix pane can't display).
I don't use xterm much and the tek pane almost never so I didn't test it exhaustively.
