Ah, right.  I discovered something about that and forgot to tell the
list about it.  Seems something happened between 2.1.1 and 2.1.3,
namely, that .xinitrc is no longer run from the user's home directory
anymore, and I had been referring to files in my home directory using
relative paths.  Inserting "cd" at the top of .xinitrc fixed that.
