Hm. Should I be rebuilding my (mac)ports tree against 2.1.3, or something? I'm finding that starting wireshark takes down the Xserver under 2.1.3, but not under 2.0. Right now, wireshark is kind of a must for me.

I also find I have some improper font rendering in my xterm, though that could also be due to my ~/.Xresources, which is a bit -er- crusty, shall we say? :)

Could it be that I have a bad install? (I'm not sure I do, because I've re-installed 2.1.3 a few times, and the server still dumps core)

I'm running 10.5.1 on a macbook.

Eh? You want something stable, so you're using the old 2.0? Honestly, if you want something stable, I recommend using 2.1.3 as we fixed a ton of bugs.

Thanks, everyone. I'm back in order with 2.0.

I'll be trying out bleeding edge versions shortly, but currently I need something stable for the next few weeks.

Thanks again,

I updated the FAQ with this info and included a link to the original plist on it.

I think your problem with reverting may be related to the fact that
/System/Library/LaunchAgents/org.x.X11.plist is supplied by the
package named com.apple.pkg.Essentials in the original Leopard
distribution, while it is overwritten by the later org.x.X11.pkg.

Reverting to the origial X11 package will not restore this important
file, since it came with the Essentials package. I suppose you could
dig it out from the install disk somehow, but I am not sure of the
details and lack the time to investigate. Maybe someone else on the
list can, if the above is not sufficient.
