Can you tell me what is being output to the system log? Check
Console.app.
Are you setting the DISPLAY environment variable somewhere?

BTW, sometimes, the app (Gimp) would start with no borders. I switch

I can see (when it works) that quartz-wm is running (if I list ps -
eaf |
grep quartz).
I am clueless as to what's wrong...

Hi!
I installed xquartz 2.3.0 in order to run Gimp na Mac OS 10.5.4.
(GIMP
would not start with default X11). Note that wireshark was running
fine with
the stock installation of X11. Or at least I think so.
When I upgaraded to 2.3.0, X11.app would start, but without window
borders
(I could not move windows, could not close them...) I "downgraded"
do 2.2.3
by deleting X11 from Application/Utilities and installing 2.2.3
afterwards.
Now X11.app wouldn't even start. (I guess that was not such a good
idea)
So I removed it again, installed again 2.3.0 and figured that it
must the
WM I am missing. When X11 is launched, quartz-wm is not. So I
launched it by
hand.
Sometimes it starts OK, and sometimes it ends abrtuptly. With no
apparent
pattern. When I launch xterm or gimp now, I get all the borders and
everything. Sometimes, when I just hover over it with my mous, it
disappears
immediately.
Obviously, there is something wrong with the X11 launcher, because
it does
not start the quartz-wm. Where can I configure that, so that it runs?
My .xinitrc is empty.
Any ideas what I can look at? Are there some diagnostic tools which
I could
run?
Thanks,
Miha
