doing this exact thing for
On Tiger or earlier you need to install something like SSHKeychain to
get an ssh agent hooked into the GUI properly. Leopard has one built
in. ssh-agent is a Good Thing, you load it with your password
protected keys and it will autoload them via passwords stored in the
keychain so you don't need to type anything after the first time you
add them.
Leopard also, as part of this, provides a nice SSH password GUI.
