Hi All,
just possibly some others may have X11/SMB issues like mine, so
I'm broadcasting a bit
in case the question and answers are useful to others.
My true $HOME area (say /home/my_home) is on a remote Linux box,
mounted on OSX by samba.
Starting Xquartz gives these auth errors, which may? be due to SMB file
locking. Anybody have a clue how to fix this?
The obvious idea of writing .serverauth.blah locally (to say /tmp)
doesn't make it visible to remote
clients.
xauth: error in locking authority file
/home/my_home/.serverauth.47278
.....
cat: /home/my_home/.serverauth.47278: No such file or directory
xauth: error in locking authority file
/home/polonius/jsg/.serverauth.47278
For clients, I've used the googlable hack
export XAUTHORITY = /tmp/.Xauthority.$USER
/etc/ssh/sshrc on the remote box is hacked to cooperate....
#########################################################
# /etc/sshrc
export XAUTHORITY=/tmp/.Xauthority.$USER
Best wishes,
James.
