It's neither OSX's nor Samba's fault; ssh runs xauth before it has authenticated to (more correctly: been authorized for) the remote FS. We at CMU ECE run a hacked sshd which points $XAUTHORITY to a temporary directory to partially compensate.
(The patch is not especially stable, and the OpenSSH folks are opposed to it or anything like it; their opinion is that anyone with $HOME in a network filesystem might as well use telnet.)
