Ladies and Germs,
I am eternally in your debt.

MS Mouse.
That's link actually points to a three-pack; just one unit is within my
reach. Central Computers has always had a rather half-baked website;
I'm sure they also stock single mice.
But I'm concerned about some Amazon reviews that reported that the
button switches would break after only a few weeks of use:

... Look at "The most helpful critical review" on the right side of the
box at the top. That's not the only one that reports this defect.
But that was written in 2005; surely the problem has since been fixed?
The Intellimouse Exporer 3.0 is also (by me) affordable, but again there
are some critical reviews:

But again those were posted over a year ago, so maybe it's better now.

That's good to know - but design, manufacturing, reliability and
ease-of-use are, sadly given that so many years have passed since the
mouse was invented, by no means universal.
I've actually bought quite a few mice without researching them, and have
just about always regretted my choice. Even though it won't cost me a
whole lot of money, I really don't want to have to deal with finding a
better mouse than what I initially settle upon.
I forgot to say in my original post - one reason I posted to this list,
rather than just asking among my meatspace friends, is that the archived
thread is likely to be valuable to future prospective mouse owners.
Thnaks!
