I am not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask this question, but here it is.
I am trying to run Gnome on a Macbook Pro under X11 2.3.2 and all system updates installed. I have installed metacity, bundle-gnome, gnome-desktop and gnome-session using fink and I have created a .xinitrc file containing the lines (as indicated in the corresponding fink page, http://pdb.finkproject.org/pdb/package.php/bundle-gnome):
source /sw/bin/init.sh
# or exec gnome-panel
exec gnome-session
X11 launches normally but all shown is just a xterm window (whose title bar is beyond the screen border) and an empty desktop. How do I get workspaces, the panel and generally the gnome functionality running under X11?
