I have just upgraded to Leopard after 4 1/2 years on Panther.
It has been a major hassle (especially with Mail, which would
not import a couple of large mail boxes), but I have finally got
things more or less working like I want them, after several days.
X11 installed fine, and Nedit worked after I found an old copy
of a missing dylib.
But I find that copy and paste between X11 and Aqua simply
does not work at all, in either direction. This is not crucial, as
I can get around it, but it is still a pain. I have tried it in both
xterm and Nedit, and it does not work at all in either.
I am on a PowerPC G5 with 1.25 gig of RAM and several
large disks. I bought the Leopard DVD from an Apple store,
installed 10.5.6 from it, then upgraded to 10.5.7. The DVD
did not contain the developer tools, so I downloaded them
from the Apple site, to get a C compiler and get my FORTRAN
95 compiler to work again.
The "About X11" windows says I have version
XQuartz 2.1.6 (xorg-server 1.4.2-apple33)
I know copy and paste between X11 and Aqua has long been
an issue, but I thought I had read earlier on this list that it had
been fixed in an earlier version of Leopard (one reason I was
finally willing to upgrade). Was I mistaken in this, or has there
been a regression?
Is there some problem with my system, or a fix or workaround?
Will getting the latest version of X11 fix this? Where is a link
to get this? I know I have read it on this list before, but I can't
seem to find it. Also, what about a link for FAQ and the like?
