Thanks for the info. I had not run across the term
"localization updates" on this list before, was not
sure what you meant by it. Searching my old emails,
I found you mentioned it a few days ago (May 29)
in a short email I had missed.

Could you fix this simply by editing the org.x.X11.plist
file and changing the preferences there?
Yeah, or by running the 'defaults' command line utility to edit it.
I just looked
at it, and it has all the options. Were the options in the
version of the file that shipped with Leopard?
Yes, they were not in the nibs shipped with Leopard.
If not,
could you not just add them or get a newer version of
the file?
Yes, that is what I suggested in the email you are quoting below:
"you can just install the localization updates over 2.1.6 to get the
new preference pane."
They all seem to be simple Boolean items.

BTW, this issue had to do with localization settings. The
Leopard SUs don't include the updated X11 preference pane, and
when the checkbox isn't there, it defaults to "off".
Unfortunately, this was not caught before Leopard shipped, and now
people have a bunch of "off" preferences stored, so it's
impossible to fix via SU.
If anyone is apprehensive about updating to 2.3.3.2 for whatever
reason, you can just install the localization updates over 2.1.6
to get the new preference pane.

I just downloaded and installed 2.3.3.2, and once I restarted
X11 and set the proper preferences, everything worked great.
Thanks!

Will getting the latest version of X11 fix this? Where is a link

to get this? I know I have read it on this list before, but I
can't
Google for "xquartz".
seem to find it. Also, what about a link for FAQ and the like?
In the message headers, there is a line
List-Archive: <http://lists.apple.com/pipermail/x11-users>
which would be nice if the link were correct. Unfortunately, it
has been broken for years. The correct link, which is
practically impossible to find from the information contained in
the message headers or footers, is
<http://lists.apple.com/archives/X11-users>
