I have turned on the new X11 option to update the pasteboard
when text is selected and have been playing with it.
I used somebody's suggestion to do an 'xset b off' in Terminal to
turn off the X11 beep to keep it from beeping when I try to replace
selected text, and I am quite happy with this for the time being.
However, I was just trying to paste some selected text in nedit
into Terminal, and it didn't work, or at least, didn't work right.
After playing with it a bit, what I have found is that if I double click
on text to select it, then it copies properly into Terminal.
However, if I select some text by just dragging the mouse over it,
then try to paste, then only the first letter of the selected text is
pasted. Kind of weird.
Presumably a different callback is being invoked for selection
by dragging rather than by double clicking, and it is not doing
something right, like maybe inserting an ascii null character
after the first character of the string.
This works fine when copying between xterm and nedit, say,
so it is clearly involved with copying to the pasteboard.
I just did a little more testing, and it may be some quirk with
nedit, because it seems to work with xterm and Terminal.
That is, I can drag and select text in xterm and paste it into
Terminal with no problem.
