Jeremy,
I have exactly the same problem on my PowerBook G4, OS 10.4.11 like
Martin and I do get identical response with Console and when
copying the lsbom commands of Martin to my Terminal.
Just a little correction: I myself don't have any problem; I was
just helping out with information. The original problem that was
reported involved a missing libexpat.0.dylib, for which I have no
explanation. I have it, and from all the information I can gather
about my system and its history, there is no way how this library
can have disappeared or been replaced by a newer version, except
from an installer bug or from a third-party X11 installation.
The other reporter confirmed that this libexpat.1.dylib was leftover
from Panther's X11. He did not select X11 when he upgraded to Tiger,
so those bits were leftover from Panther. The Security Update
replaced some X11 bits in Tiger expecting that the remaining bits were
Tiger's X11 and not Panther's. That is really the heart of the problem.
Solutions:
1) *HACK* Do the following:
sudo ln -s libexpat.1.dylib /usr/X11R6/lib/libexpat.0.dylib
This will make your apps run, but you'll probably start having other
kinds of breakage that I don't want to support
2) Install Tiger's X11 ... I *BELIEVE* this will work... someone will
need to confirm:
1) Install X11User.pkg from your Tiger DVD
2) Run Software Updates to install the X11 update
3) Install the 10.4.11 Combo Update (download it from http://www.apple.com
)
4) Run Software Updates to install the security update bits
3) Install X11 with MacPorts. This will get you a much newer X11 than
is present in Tiger
1) Install MacPorts (http://www.macports.org)
2) Run 'sudo port -v install xorg'
3) Launch X11 using /Applications/MacPorts/X11.app rather than the
one in Utilities
