Yeah ... anything that causes a panic is certainly not XQuartz's fault. If anything, it might be that the updates cause the bug to be exposed. Stereoscopic support was fairly hit-or-miss in Leopard. It's much better in Snow Leopard (still a few cards that have quirks, but overall much better), but that doesn't really help you with your G5s.
