Thank you so much, friends. I appreciate your taking the time to share
your knowledge, and do the same when I can. I think I will try to
install the xvfb-run script and see what happens. I will let you know
of the results of my experiments!

Yeah. Xvfb should be provided by either the Apple-provided or
MacOSForge-provided X11 packages, but I don't know what your xvfb-run
script is. Chances are that is something that needs to be provided
by
you or the software you are trying to install.
A quick Google search turns up this script (looks like it was from
Debian initially):
http://www.flexthinker.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/xvfb-run.sh.txt
The script references this as its initial source:
# from:
http://necrotic.deadbeast.net/xsf/XFree86/trunk/debian/local/xvfb-run
but that no longer exists.

There is no "xvfb-run" in the latest release. There is however, the
actual Virtual Frame buffer server, /opt/X11/bin/Xvfb that you could
put a script around.

Jeff,
I recently installed the latest XQuartz (X.org Release 7.5) into
Snow
Leopard and can confirm `which xvfb` is /opt/X11/bin/xvfb
