Thanks for any help.  I’m confused about fonts  in X11.  I have a control system  that uses  Solaris 8 as an engineering workstation.  I’m trying to run the  programs remotely  using X11 back on the Mac.  I have Snow Leopard (10.6.2) and X11 (XQuartz 2.3.4)

I can get most of the programs to function properly but the last few crash or fail to start.  The error on the Solaris console reads

XView warning: Cannot load font set ‘-*-lucidasanstypewriter-medium-r-*-*-*-120_*-*-*-*-*-*’’ (Font package)

XView warning: invalid object (not a pointer), xv_get

[1]          Segmentation Fault control_panel (core dumped)

No errors on the Mac side

I do not get a window on the  Mac.  I know that  this a font problem and I do not have the font installed on the Mac but  I thought there was a way to map this request to a different font. If this is not possible where do I locate this font.

I’ve talked to the vendor and  they state that the programs should run but I need to resolve the font program on the Mac.  I cannot have them recompile the programs to remove the dependency.  I’ve looked at the Mac OSx Reference Library under FONTS-CONF for guidance but when you open the //usr/X11/lib/X11/fontconfig/fonts.conf file it has a warning not to modify.  I do not have a ~/.fonts.conf file I could find. Looking for advice.

Thanks for any guidance.
