For one thing, I noted that other windows of the same application
continued to function fine.
It's possible that the bug existed in earlier releases and is so
low-probability that by chance I hadn't hit it. But considering
that I hit it within a couple hours of moving to rc2, after never
having seen anything of the kind in many thousands of hours with
this application, I'm finding the coincidence a bit thin.
Anyway, as I said, I'm happy to try to reproduce it if you can
suggest what debugging info you'd want.
