thanks. i'll try them. though i'm still concerned about the
non-capslock-related errors coming out of xmodmap in the
latest version of xquartz when it's fine in older versions.
it's clearly a recent bug that will hopefully get fixed.
as for the capslock-related problem, perhaps xquartz could
employ the same techniques as these programs in order to
work properly. that's probably just wishful thinking. :-)
