X11 is completely unrelated, I suspect; the problem with Java is its new
owner — and a whole bunch of us are fully expecting Oracle to start charging
(at their normal exorbitant prices) for the SDK, and not implausibly the
runtime. Oracle didn't buy out the X Consortium, and if they did they'd
find it impossible to restrict X11: if nothing else, HP and IBM have
several copyright fingers in that pie and Oracle would have to buy out their
interests as well. (Not that I think Oracle gives a shrill hoot about X11.)
