Hello,
I was still using OpenOffice 1.1.2 as my main text processing tool on
the Powerbook running OS X 10.4.11 that recently died on me, in short
because that's the OOo version that I still prefer. Fortunately it
works under Rosetta emulation on my new MBP 13", but "dead keys" do
not work. On the 10.4.11 X11 server, there'd be the occasional glitch
where (e.g.) Option-e would open a menu instead of priming an acute
accent on the subsequent character, but on the current version that
doesn't work at all.
This does not appear to be limited to OOo; Tk widgets also do not
support this functionality (using a universal X11 build of Tk 8.5).
Is this a known issue, with a known workaround? How do I enter
accented characters in an X11 application? X11 is set to follow the
system keyboard layout (which supports the mentioned deadkeys).
TIA,
R.B.
