I found the $XAPPLRESDIR and I figured how to start up AfterStep in a separate window on the second monitor.
xinit ~/.xinitrc.AfterStep -- /opt/X11/bin/Xnest :1 -geometry 1680x1050
505$ cat .xinitrc.AfterStep
exec /opt/local/bin/AfterStep
-- I Also found that in order to get the initial terminal
away and getting correct dpi settings, I had to use the defaults commands on both domains:
org.x.X11 and org.macosforge.xquartz.X11.
