Greetings ...
I support an X11 application which uses the old-school "XView"
graphics library. Updates to X11 have often been problematic,
but we've generally been update to adjust the XView library accordingly
so that this application will work under xquartz.
The application is one component of a larger UNIX script-based
software system, and is usually launched from the command-line of
an xterm.
What we've seen over the last year or so are many cases where the
application will crash if run from an "xterm", but it will run
properly if started from a "terminal" app.
In cases we've looked at, there seem to be no obvious
environment variable settings which would explain this difference.
I gather from searching other posts that there might be an
underlying difference in which X11 server the application
tries to connect to ("plain" X11 or xquartz).
So, I'd welcome comments on how to determine what the critical
difference is, or how to adjust it for a fix.
Cheerful Regards,
f
