Could it be, that you are using some 3rd party software, which gives you
additional features to the pasteboard / clipboard? E.g. something which can
manage several pasteboard entries. Eventually something like this does
interfere with the OS X / X11 copy and paste.
I really don’t know if any 3rd party software is interfering, but I do
Do you have any software (mainly 3rd party utilities / helper
tools) installed, which could have such features? I personally
try to avoid them, as they sometimes need to do some dirty stuff
to the system.
know that the exact minute I finished installing 2.7.2, copy and paste
stopped working. I tried all options in X11 preferences, and all
copy-and-paste methods from both sides of X. Absolutely nothing works.
I am still using OS X 10.6.8 with system X11.app. And if I
remember correctly from the whole thread, the original poster is
also using the system X11.app.
I did not play that much with OS X 10.8 and XQuartz 2.7.2 yet.
But I did now just a few tests on it:
- Selecting some text in Terminal.app, pressing Command-c and
then in xterm press middle mouse button and it got pasted
- Selecting some other text in xterm and then in Terminal.app
pressing Command-v did not work and still the old content of the
pastboard was pasted
- Selecting again some other text in xterm, pressing Command-c
and then in Terminal.app pressing Command-v did work and the
correct text was pasted
- Copy and paste within X11 does work as expected, selecting text
and then pressing the middle mouse button. It does even work,
when the selected text has been deselected
So it seems with OS X 10.8 and XQuartz 2.7.2, if something needs
to be pasted from X11 to OS X, pressing Command-c is needed. As I
usually use Command-c for this anyway, I would not have realized
this difference without the tests I did earlier on 10.6.8 with
system X11.app.
Perhaps I can try to *downgrade* back to 2.7.1 and see if that
reactivates copy-and-paste...
Did you do the log out and log in after the installation of 2.7.2?
PS: No need to use "reply all", reply only to the list is
perfect, as I do filter e-mails based on the "List-Id" header line.
